Lake District - Cumbria

Our first excursion of the Summer was to the Lake District in Cumbria, North West England. Everyone I have ever asked about the Lake District has raved about it, and when we got there we understood why. This really is a beautiful part of the world. We drove up through the Yorkshire Dales on Saturday morning. We made a detour to the Whitescar Cave on the way. We did an 80 minute tour of the cave. It was amazing! When we got to the Lakes district we headed to Windermere, a breathtaking lake that we had to cross by ferry. We planned to set up camp here the night, but alas, the camping grounds were full. We had some dinner and asked the barmaid where we could go. She directed us to a pub and told us to ask for Arthur. It was a 15 minute drive down a very winding road, but we made it to the pub and found Arthur. He was lovely and let us camp on our land. It was a great laugh trying to put up our tent for the very first time in the dark and after a few drinks! The next day we drove around and saw some amazing scenes of lakes and mountains, even a stone circle and castle.
